Study Residence Permit in Georgia: Documents and Fees

Foreign students enrolled in Georgian universities and vocational colleges need a residence permit to stay legally for the whole programme. This guide summarises the official SDA conditions.

Who can apply?

An adult foreigner who studies a higher education or vocational programme at an authorised Georgian institution.

Funds requirement

The monthly funds must be at least twice the minimum subsistence level for the average consumer, calculated for the validity period of the permit. The money can come from the student, a Georgian citizen or a relative with residence rights in Georgia who can prove kinship. Funds in a bank account count too. The subsistence figure is set by the state, so check the current amount.

Documents

  • Application form and copy of the travel document
  • Proof of lawful stay in Georgia
  • Certificate from the educational institution confirming enrolment, the programme and the expected duration
  • Proof of legal income or funds (and of kinship if a relative supports you)
  • Colour photo 3×4 cm in electronic form
  • Proof of payment of the fee

State fees

  • 30 calendar days: GEL 300
  • 20 calendar days: GEL 450
  • 10 calendar days: GEL 600

When to apply

As a rule, apply at least 40 calendar days before your lawful stay in Georgia ends. Some permit types are exempt from this rule, so check your case.
